Greetings! And welcome to the next generation of colour icons!
Well, System 7.0 is only months away (or so we’re told), and new icon-colourization INITs like SunDesk are being released that take advantage of the new colour icon formats that Finder 7.0 will support. With that in mind, I’ve decided to convert Immedium Design’s libraries of colour icons to “icl8” format, which allow 256 colours per icon, rather than the 16-colour standard supported previously, and use less RAM per icon that older formats. I’ve also taken the opportunity to fine tune various icons, and have altered some to take better advantage of the new formats’ capabilities. So, if you’ve seen the “cicn” format Immedium colour icons, some new format icons will look markedly different, while others will look little or no different than their predecessors.
These colour icons were produced with Frédéric Miserey’s wonderful set of colour icon-editting resources, ResColors, which is available on many on-line services and is highly recommended.
Producing these icons and converting them has proven to be a lot of work. The cicn format icons were and remain free for you to use and distribute. The new format icons, though, were a serious effort, and I’m making them shareware. If you like these icons, feel that they enhance your computing environment, then help support further development. Send $15 to the address below, and you will receive a floppy disk with ALL current Immedium colour icons, as well as the most current version of SunDesk and ResColors, as well as ALL future Immedium colour icon releases. It’s really a pretty good deal, especially when you consider the amount you’ll spend downloading all the individual files.
